Abstract
Functional assessment describes a range of evaluation techniques designed to determine the environmental events that control problem behavior. Researchers have consistently demonstrated that behavioral interventions based on functional assessment results are more effective than those that are chosen based on the topography of problem behavior. In this presentation, recent research on functional assessment will be discussed as well as common behavioral intervention techniques to decrease problem behavior that derive from the results of these assessments.
