Abstract
Social stories is an intervention package aimed at improving a wide range of skills associated with social adaption in children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The presentation describes using Social stories to increase social skills in a young student with autism in mainstream school, using a multiple probe design across behaviors. Social stories proved effective in changing all target behaviors. The presentation emphasizes how characteristics of the subject (such as preferences, impressive language etc.) and findings from the functional behavior analysis had an impact in the design of the independed variable. Finally the presentation will suggest what behavioral principles may have been responsible for the effects of the intervention on the different target behaviors and the evidence base of social stories will be briefly reviewed.
