Abstract
This talk will cover (1) the history and origins of Facilitated Communication (FC), its spread to the United States and Europe, and its current status and forms (including Rapid Prompting and supported typing); (2) past and current research examining the reliability and validity of FC as a method of communication; (3) behavioral principles that might help explain parents’, caregivers’, facilitators’, and others’ acceptance and promotion of FC; and (4) some recommendations and strategies for behavior analysts who work with parents and caregivers interested in or already using FC.
